At dawn in a beautiful fantasy land, Kookaburra's laughter announces the arrival of old Mr Sun, whose golden fingers begin to gracefully dance on the sunflower family, causing them to straighten and reach for his revitalizing warmth. Suddenly, the tallest of the sunflowers notices something falling from the sky. Netting the object on her face, she sends it rolling down her family's spiral stairway, right into a nest created by the bent grass blades. Incubating the egg in their own special way, the grass and flowers create protective layers to shelter the unborn from a looming storm. With the wind fiercely howling pass during the terrible thunderstorm, Kookaburra realises that the flowers and grass need help. He swoops in and saves the egg, just in time! The next morning, a tiny chick hatches and soon grows into healthy fledgling, tenderly cared for by his hosts. As the bird seeks adventure in search of his own kind, Kookaburra, the sunflowers and grass wonder if their bond is strong enough to entice him to return, back into the warm embrace of their loving home. In this vibrant children's story that comes alive with enchanting illustrations, the value of love and life is encapsulated through nature as an orphaned bird learns the true meaning of family and home.
