In 1969, seven blind men climbed Kilimanjaro to prove that blind people were capable. Thirty-six years later, another party came down the same mountain and found the braille machines locked in a cupboard.
They had trained for a fortnight. They came from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and they climbed to settle a question their societies had already answered without asking them.
