It was bound to happen. The human attempt to exercise authority over vampires was fated to fail. Had humans learned nothing from the consequences of one race dominating another? The uprising of every breed of vampire brought governments to their knees, and left a path of destruction across every nation with cities buried under the dead. David and Melissa Grayson awake from a long slumber to the restlessness growing along their beloved picturesque English countryside. The revolt had spread to their estate nestled in the Cotswolds, the once quiet beauty rising with the smoke from the villages burning on the horizon. The family is forced to turn their home into a prison. Their time is limited, proven when they must slaughter their own horses to feed the humans they provided shelter, and to satiate their own dying thirst. The family is betrayed when one of the humans they protected flees to the village, bringing a careless mob with his return. The family escapes to watch their Camelot burn, setting them on a journey that will try their resolve to stay together, and survive doing it. Only the human apocalypse is merely an undercurrent to the storm coming for them.An ancient Cold Blood with an investment in the family's bloodline becomes obsessed with their youngest, Effy, and will stop at nothing to have her. The family flees to Norway to escape him in the shadows of devastation, building a new life with borrowed time. Their sedated sense of peace becomes a fool's paradise when they are forced to face their origins. Lothaire's costly wager for their survival brings the extinction of the human race to their doorstep, turning their reality into witnessing the beginning of the struggle of their own to survive. The extermination of the human race will spark the largest war in history, the end of a silent requiem between breeds of vampires.
