In Ilé Ifẹ̀ there were people who could see.
They were called Olùmọ̀rà n, and if a thing was hidden they could find it, and if a thing was coming they could name it. They said they were greater than the Babaláwos, and they said it where the Babaláwos could hear.
So the Ọba set a contest. Two covered calabashes on the floor of the arena, and whoever could say what lay inside them would be called the elder.
Both groups answered correctly.
Only one of them said what it meant - and what had to be done before the seventh day. Nobody listened.
Ifá l'à gbà . Ifá is the elder - not because Ifá sees further, but because Ifá alone carries the remedy.
