I Once Was is a poetry anthology that encapsulates the feelings of distortion of time and self that occur for people severely affected by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. Becoming chronically ill is an identity crisis; you lose the ability to do many or all of the things that defined you. M.E. is a complex multi-systemic neuroimmune disease that, in 25% of the cases, leaves the patient bedbound due to insufficient energy production within the cells. With no known cure and very limited treatments available, millions are suffering in silence in their homes without adequate help. This anthology aims to spread
awareness for this underfunded disease, and all profits from it will go towards Open Medicine Foundation.
