Captain Hawes: Colonel, I don't want to get into trouble with the SS, I am between a rock and a hard place.
Colonel Becker: Answer my question Captain or you will be between a wall and a firing squad.
How a fearless Gestapo Senior Colonel, who also was an American agent, took on the Nazis with reckless abandon and in the process found love and acclaim.
A story about a military attache at the German Embassy in Washington in 1931 who sought asylum in the United States. Asylum was granted after agreement was made to substitute an American as a double for the Attache. The substituted double would act as an undercover agent for the United States. The double who was selected, based on body similarities and plastic surgery, fluency in the language, returned to Germany as a Major In Army Intelligence with instructions to incur the favor of any top Nazi officials in anticipation of a Nazi take over of Germany. The double's success far exceeded expectations, eventually becoming a top and powerful official with the Geheime Staatspolizei or better known as the Gestapo.
