From the opening pages of Scripture, God reveals Himself as Creator, Designer, and Sustainer of all life. In the beginning, He formed the earth, caused plants to grow, and declared His creation good (Genesis 1:11-12, 31). Humanity was then placed within creation-not as owners, but as stewards-tasked to work the land and keep it (Genesis 2:15). Horticulture from a Biblical Worldview is written from this foundational truth: that the study and practice of horticulture is a God-ordained responsibility rooted in obedience, wisdom, and care for what God has made.
This text is designed to integrate scientific understanding with biblical truth, affirming that the natural laws governing plant growth, soil health, and ecosystems reflect God's intentional design. Rather than separating faith from science, this curriculum presents horticulture as a discipline in which observation, experimentation, and management operate within a framework of biblical authority. Students are encouraged to explore plant biology, soil systems, propagation, nutrition, pest management, and cultivation practices while recognizing that these systems function according to order established by the Creator (Psalm 19:1; Colossians 1:16-17).
A Genesis-based worldview acknowledges that creation was originally designed for harmony and productivity, yet now bears the effects of the Fall (Genesis 3). Challenges such as disease, pests, soil degradation, and scarcity are not accidental, but part of a broken world requiring diligent, thoughtful stewardship. This curriculum teaches students to respond to these challenges not with exploitation or neglect, but with responsibility, restraint, and ethical management-seeking solutions that reflect care for land, people, and future generations (Proverbs 12:10; Proverbs 12:11).
Throughout this book, horticulture is presented as both practical skill and character-forming work. Students will learn that growth requires patience, consistency, and faithful labor-principles mirrored in spiritual development. Just as seeds require proper conditions to flourish, individuals grow when instruction is rooted in truth, discipline, and purpose. Education, therefore, is not merely the accumulation of information, but the shaping of wisdom and discernment through lived application (James 1:22).
This text is written for secondary students, homeschool learners, and educators seeking a curriculum that is academically rigorous, biblically faithful, and grounded in real-world application. Lessons emphasize hands-on learning, critical thinking, and responsible decision-making while maintaining reverence for Scripture as the ultimate authority.
