Thirteen year old Calura DuNoct always thought she was an orphan until one Halloween night when ghost friend and guardian Mircalla reveals to her that she is only part human and part immortal. Calura discovers that her human mother disappeared shortly after her birth and her father lives in another world, a world where it is always Halloween. Now Calura must leave everything she knows behind and embark on a journey through the world of the undead and eternal spirits in search of her parents. The barrier between the worlds is open only once a year on Halloween so she will have to find her own way without her guardian. Calura has only her father's love letters and mother's faded diary to give her clues. How far will she go to discover her identity? She will encounter new friends along the way to aid her like Ambrose the lost soul hiding his true identity, Jarlath Nox the brilliant yet frustrated costume designer, and Vincent Maenon, a kind hearted werewolf tormented by his violent past and a terrible secret involving Calura's mother. Though werewolves, pirates, and phantoms threaten her, Calura struggles with her own demons more than anything. For to find her family, she must love them, and to love them she must learn to love herself. Can she overcome her own feelings of abandonment and open herself up to her parent's love, even though she may never find them?
