Puis la vie passe.
Les carrières, les mariages, les divorces, les enfants, les renoncements, les surprises.
Jusqu'au jour où, plus de cinquante ans plus tard, les cinq lettres refont surface.
Et forcément, rien ne s'est passé comme prévu.
Françoise pensait qu'à soixante-dix ans, elle serait vieille. Nicole devait vivre à New York. Marie-Claude rêvait d'une famille parfaite. Josiane voulait une carrière brillante. Annie gardait pour elle un rêve que personne ne soupçonnait.
Leurs lettres vont réveiller des souvenirs, révéler quelques secrets et surtout leur rappeler une chose essentielle: il est peut-être encore temps de faire ce qu'elles avaient remis à plus tard.
Entre éclats de rire, amitiés retrouvées, familles un peu trop protectrices, escapade à New York, amour inattendu, projets oubliés et nouvelles libertés, les cinq femmes vont découvrir qu'à soixante-dix ans, on peut encore changer d'avis, tomber amoureuse, monter sur scène, partir sans savoir où l'on va... et arrêter enfin de demander la permission.
Un roman feel-good drôle, tendre et résolument moderne sur l'amitié, les choix d'une vie et cette merveilleuse période où l'on comprend qu'on n'est peut-être pas obligée de devenir raisonnable.
Parce qu'après tout, on nous avait pourtant dit que ce serait plus simple.
