Ce deuxième volume de la série T-Reality examine le problème de la conscience dans le cadre méthodologique des sciences cognitives contemporaines.
À partir des travaux de Karl Friston, Andy Clark, Thomas Metzinger, David Marr, David Chalmers, Fred Dretske, Jerry Fodor, Stanislas Dehaene et d'autres auteurs majeurs de la philosophie de l'esprit et des neurosciences théoriques, l'ouvrage analyse la structure des modèles cognitifs, le rôle du predictive processing et la relation entre activité neuronale et expérience.
Le livre développe une distinction centrale entre la description scientifique d'un système cognitif et le contenu opérationnel accessible à ce système. Cette distinction devient le point de départ d'une relecture du problème de la conscience, du self-model, du domaine phénoménologique et du statut des représentations dans les systèmes cognitifs.
