The Following of Christ is a spiritual diary written by Gerard Groote between 1340 and 1384. Groote was a Dutch Roman Catholic theologian and founder of the Brethren of the Common Life, a religious community dedicated to the pursuit of piety and learning. In this diary, Groote shares his reflections on his own spiritual journey and offers guidance to others seeking to deepen their faith. The book is divided into short chapters, each focused on a particular aspect of Christian life, such as prayer, humility, and charity. Groote's writing is characterized by its simplicity and directness, and his insights into the human condition and the nature of God have made The Following of Christ a beloved classic of Christian literature. This edition includes a new introduction by a contemporary author and scholar, providing historical context and insight into the enduring relevance of Groote's teachings. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
