Do you really hate it when a book or a movie tries to cram a message down your throat?
So do I, which is why I've never done it in my books - except once. And that is a message so important that I could not let myself be stopped by the prospect of annoyed reviewers ranting at me for including it.
In this one book that does convey a message, that message is not the main thread of the story. FALLOWBLADE is about beguilement and enchantment, passion and vengeance, strangeness, mystery, beauty and peril. Many people have written to tell me how much they loved it. Some have even said it's their favorite. People who care about non-humans will like FALLOWBLADE, as will fantasy lovers, romantasy lovers, and readers who have enjoyed any of my other fantasy series.
I place ethics above popularity. When it's a choice between selling more books and not changing things for the better, or selling fewer books and improving the life of at least one creature, I don't hesitate to opt for the second choice.
