This workbook is written for those who carry questions, doubts, and wounds from the church-and for those who refuse to abandon their conscience or their commitment to justice-this six-session workbook reimagines what it means to join a faith community. It is for people who have been burned by religious institutions, who have left and returned, who have wondered whether faith can survive real life.
Participants explore six foundational themes: God, the Bible, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the church, and ministry. Each theme is treated not as a doctrinal hoop to jump through, but as an invitation into a faith that is sturdy enough for injustice, suffering, and honest uncertainty. Every lesson includes scriptural foundations, group discussion questions, spiritual practices, and take-home anchors for daily reflection.
The book provides a clear, practical definition of social justice-including a specific focus on African American experience and the historic struggle against anti-Blackness. It names harmful images of God and offers pathways for unlearning. It acknowledges that the church has wounded people and that the author himself has been wounded and has inflicted wounds.
Shaped by nearly fifty years of ministry, this workbook offers companionship, not ultimatums. It does not rush anyone toward certainty. It walks alongside those who are searching for a faith that does not require leaving their minds-or their wounds-at the door. It operates from the position that faith is not a finish line. It is a way of walking-together-toward truth, justice, and healing.
