The crisis in the Gabonese education system calls for an axiological refocusing. Beyond instrumental institutional responses, a genealogy of the problem is needed. We have no pretensions to prescribing a miracle cure for Gabon's educational malaise. We are simply directing our thinking towards concerns that take into account an ethical vision of the school. A quality education system requires quality men and women. This is the meaning to be attributed to the professionalization of teaching in Gabon that we pursue in our Essay. In fact, we maintain that setting standards for the teaching profession in the Gabonese Republic would reduce unethical, morally blameworthy and professionally unjustified behavior. Between strong and moderate deontology, we prefer the latter, seen as a concern for ethical regulation of the profession, whose primary intention is to make practitioners more accountable.
