Misty Montoya decides from day one that she will hate Boring, Oregon. Forced to leave her native San Jose just weeks after her father's death and spend her senior year of high school at a new school in a new town, she has never felt more alone. With her mother occupied by the workload of her new job, and all of Misty's friends hundreds of miles away, she is left to deal with her grief all by herself. As she wanders the woods of her new home seeking comfort from its untouched beauty, she discovers she is not as alone as she thought. In the wilds of her own backyard lives a race older than the memory of mankind: the Sidhe, fairy folk of Ireland. Fleeing ancient dangers, these magical beings left their homeland hundreds of years before, and slowly migrated across America, heading steadily west. By lucky accident, Misty becomes the first human in a generation to actually see an elf, let alone talk to one; her gentle nature draws the clan's two youngest members to befriend her despite the rules of their elders, and she finds herself more connected to Boring than she could have possibly imagined. But just as Misty is beginning to feel like she has found a place that she truly belongs, her new friends find themselves in grave danger. Old enemies from their past and new enemies from the present are combining forces to threaten their very existence. With the support of her newfound school friend Kelsey, whose own family's history is tied to that of the Sidhe, Misty fights to protect a place she swore to hate and finds her own life in danger. Through this battle, Misty learns that losing family is sometimes the first step to building a new one, and that friends can come from the strangest places.
