Peter comes home to a broken Neverland. All but a handful of the Lost Boys have scattered in his absence, fleeing for salvation deeper into the woods and into the mountains. Nibs, the second in command, tries to hold the boys together, but his lack of experience leaves him mostly wanting and never receiving. Curly, Tootles, and Slightly, dedicated to the cause, stay by Nibs's side faithfully while Peter is away playing soldier with Ms. Wendy, never questioning his authority or his odd commands that come at the strangest times.
Peter comes home to some new faces as well. There have been orphans showing up on the island since Peter's exodus those few years ago. It seems like an eternity to the boys he had left behind. Curves and Wheels are gone. Spit has taken his chickens and gone north through the plains and into the mountains. And Tinkerbelle hasn't been seen since Peter left. Things are looking quite bleak for the boys while Peter is gone.
Before Peter left, there had been twenty Lost Boys. Now they're down to eight. The newest members of the Lost Boys are Ghost, Deebs, and Brian. Ghost-a shy, reserved boy filled with the Lord's glory and grace-prays for the group in their times of distress and is terrified of the island of Neverland. Deebs, the strongest of the bunch, does his best to support Nibs, though deep down inside he knows that he would make a better Pan. He's a strong leader, remarkable at military strategy and rallying the troops for battle. But he is rugged and surly, so he has a hard time relating to the troops. And then there's Brian, the lovable, quick-witted musician in the group who only wants the group to get along. Brian carries a fear with him that soon becomes reality when he's faced with a life-or-death situation, causing ripples in the group's dynamic.
The new group sets off to find the reason for the island's disarray. Led by Peter and Nibs-together again, as if Peter never left-they try to get things back to when times were better, happier. Adventuring into the unknowns of the island, the boys must pull themselves together as a group and use their individual skills if they have any chance at resolving this mystery and getting things back to when things were better.
