The end of the world is nigh; or so those who listen to the Pembrokeshire grapevine would have you believe. The supermarkets are experiencing panic buying the like of which hasn't been seen since the big snow of 1983; looting is rife; and thanks to a wild party hosted by his new Asian friends, Big Paul has lost an entire day. At the crack of dawn Mike Priestland had a sneaking suspicion that it was going to be a bad day when the roof of his house was ripped off by an early morning meteor/rogue comet/asteroid affair; a harbinger of doom spawned by the distant collision of a moon and a different meteor/rogue comet/ asteroid affair way out in the Kuiper Belt. Led by Major Hoolihan, whose lips are anything but hot, the military is called in, which is always good for a laugh. Together with a team of civilian experts their quest is a desperate one; an attempt to come up with a solution to the meteor/rogue comet/asteroid activity before they all have to leave the party to shuffle off their various mortal coils. But, as the advance meteor shower starts to fizzle out, the hugely anticipated main strike never arrives; something else does; something quite possibly not of this Earth. Alien invaders? Government experimentation and scheming? A sinister plot to wipe the west Wales township of Monkton off the face of the planet? Who knows! The retired Chief Gallant, aided admirably by an electrician, a farmer, a supermarket home delivery driver and Big Paul, the private security fella home on leave from Afghanistan, or possibly Iraq, are determined to get to the bottom of the enigma before things in general become any nastier.
