Dorothy Dainty at the Mountains by Amy Brooks is a charming tale set in a picturesque mountain hotel, where young Dorothy Dainty and her friend Nancy Ferris spend their summer. The story unfolds with the girls exploring the natural beauty around them, particularly enjoying the echoes that respond to their calls. Their peaceful days are occasionally interrupted by the antics of Floretta Paxton, a mischievous child known for her mimicry, which often leads to humorous yet troublesome situations. The arrival of Flossie Barnet and her family, including the jovial Uncle Harry, adds to the excitement. Uncle Harry's plan to take the children to a local country fair promises a delightful adventure. The narrative is interspersed with interactions with other hotel guests, including a stern old lady who resembles a fairy tale character, adding a whimsical touch to the story. The book captures the essence of childhood curiosity and the joy of simple pleasures, set against the backdrop of a serene mountain retreat. The characters' interactions highlight themes of friendship, kindness, and the occasional challenges of dealing with difficult personalities.
