In this first volume of The Dhul-Qarnayn Series, Dr. Sheikh Saad Slaoui Andaloussi follows the account of Sūrat al-Kahf step by step, examining the meaning of the title Dhul-Qarnayn, the scholarly discussion concerning whether he was a prophet or a righteous ruler, the extraordinary means Allah granted him, and the journeys through which his character is revealed.
The reader travels with Dhul-Qarnayn toward the western horizon, toward the rising place of the sun, and finally to the people living between the two barriers. There, a vulnerable people ask for protection from Ya'jūj and Ma'jūj, and Dhul-Qarnayn organizes the construction of a formidable barrier using iron and molten metal.
Yet this is not merely a story of travel, kingship, engineering, or political power.
It is a story of faith, responsibility, justice, humility, and servitude to Allah.
Dhul-Qarnayn possesses extraordinary authority, but the Qur'an does not present him as a man intoxicated by power. He judges morally, protects the vulnerable, refuses exploitation, mobilizes people instead of making them passive dependents, and uses the means Allah has given him responsibly.
When one of the greatest achievements of his life stands complete before him, he does not glorify himself. He says:
This is a mercy from my Lord.
That statement captures the spiritual center of the volume.
The Qur'an gives us a carefully selected portrait rather than a complete biography. It does not identify Dhul-Qarnayn's personal name, kingdom, capital, or exact modern geography. Instead, it preserves what matters most for guidance: what he did with power, how he treated people, how he understood success, and how he remained conscious that every means ultimately came from Allah.
This volume also establishes a key scholarly principle for the entire series:
Be certain where revelation is certain, cautious where scholars differ, and restrained where the evidence does not justify certainty.
Rather than forcing Dhul-Qarnayn into a predetermined historical identity, the book first establishes the Qur'anic profile that every later theory must face. Alexander, Cyrus, Arabian rulers, and other historical proposals are deliberately reserved for Book Two.
