The sensory descriptions describing daily activities made me feel like this was a very well thought-out world, and that these were very real people. Their behaviour was also extremely realistic. No one was simply a caricature. They all had their own concerns and ways of perceiving the world. There's supernatural elements in it, but the author uses them skilfully, as ways to augment the story, rather than as a needless special effect. John S
