The four strangers are now the Dawnblades - heroes of the Night of Black Blood and friends of such celebrated heroes as the Demigod, Androktetes and his companion, the Maiden of Mereandil. They are called upon to fight against the tribes of darkspawn that raid the kingdom for plunder and killing and they do not think twice about doing their duty. They spent enough time as ghosts to the world, weak and afraid. Now is the time for strength and courage. They have to fight for the people and for themselves because their mortal foe, the monstrous raven that calls itself the Curse of Shadows, seeks their destruction. Unknown to them, the Raven's intrigue revolves around Androktetes and its ultimate goal remains shrouded in shadow which not even the eyes of the Gods can pierce to discern the truth. Will the Blades of Dawn prevail in this war for survival against the horde? Will they foil the Raven's intrigue and help the Demigod or will they fall victims to the machinations of this evil, destructive force? Not even the Gods can say.

This book is a hundred-and-eighteen thousand word, heroic fantasy novel set in the Age of Thunder and it's the second in the series that I call The Blades of Dawn. The tale unfolds during the beginning of the age, in the period that will come to be called the Red Years. It's a time when the human races that are united in the pact of the spear, struggle to conquer the glory of old and carve the future with bronze and steel on the canvas of the world. They are years of incessant war against a myriad foes and a time when paupers can become kings and when kings live and die by the sword.
