Marcus Mackie Doyle once believed boxing would save him.
For four years, he was one of Britain's rising professional fighters - a talented, hard-working boxer with a genuine chance of reaching the top. Then came the fight that should have changed his life. Mackie won it in the ring, but the judges gave the decision to his opponent. He knew it was fixed. So did the crowd. And, most importantly, so did the man standing opposite him.
Instead of accepting the result and keeping quiet, Mackie said what everyone else was too afraid to say. He called out the corruption live on television.
It was the beginning of the end.
His career disappeared almost overnight. Promoters stopped calling. His licence became impossible to renew. The people who had once promised him a future simply walked away.
