Every December the same films come back. The same tree gets decorated, the same kid gets left behind, the same man learns what he has been missing. You know them by heart. This book is twenty-four evenings of finding out how much of that is memory and how much is guesswork.
One page a night, from December 1st to Christmas Eve. Six questions a day and a theme that changes every evening: the black and white classics, the ones that make you cry, the villains, the sequels nobody asked for, the arguably-not-Christmas films you will defend anyway, and on Day 20, every version of Scrooge ever made.
Read them out loud. Then turn the page. The answers are on the back of the page you are reading, never opposite it, so nobody sees them early and nobody spoils it. Two questions a day are gettable by anyone at the table. The rest are for whoever claims to be the expert.
Behind the film. Every day ends with the story of how one of these films actually got made: the studio that said no, the scene nobody planned, the actor who nearly turned it down. It is the part you repeat at dinner the next night and take credit for.
