This is the third volume of this dialogue-strong work on Buddy Holly, and the events leading to his musical stardom. His friends and connections included: Marty Robbins, Elvis Presley, Wanda Jackson, Carl Perkins, Sonny James, Faron Young, Roy Orbison, Buddy Knox, Webb Pierce, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette, Hank Thompson, Hank Locklin, Hank Snow, Glen Reeves, George Jones, Colonel Tom Parker, Norman Petty, Ed Sullivan, Bob Montgomery, Sonny Curtis, Jerry Allison, Niki Sullivan, Joe Maudlin, Echo McGuire and Peggy Sue Guerin - all are featured. At the time Americana was abuzz with the multi-coloured lights of Wurlitzer jukeboxes, cowboy movies such as The Searchers, musicians making films like Elvis Presley in Love Me Tender, and similarly-aimed teenage screen efforts like The Girl Can't Help It. All the while Buddy and musician friends are trying to secure a record contract and create that elusive hit - initially via Decca at their Nashville studio. Their song, 'That'll Be The Day' was not up to scratch - and shelved. Nashville was also where Buddy Holley became Buddy Holly. To make ends (dollars) meet, Buddy and his friends fell in with Norman Petty at his Clovis, New Mexico sound studio, where the young musicians had a virtual free hand to write, practice and record. And some great records came from the liaison.
