Bumble is the biggest, loudest, most fearsome lion in the entire jungle. Every morning he roars at the sunrise. Every afternoon he roars at his lunch. Everyone knows Bumble - and everyone runs.
But every night, Bumble pulls his blanket over his nose and hopes nobody notices.
One night, tiny Pip the mouse catches him squeaking in fright. Word gets out, and every jungle animal rushes to help - in the most spectacularly useless ways imaginable. Percy the parrot turns on every light in the jungle. Ellie the elephant arrives with 47 candles stacked on her head - which immediately topple everywhere. Gerald the giraffe stretches his neck all the way to the moon trying to move it closer. The zebras paint stripes on everything. The monkeys build a bonfire and sit on it. The flamingos stand rigidly still wearing lampshades on their heads, convinced they are lamps.
None of it works. The dark is still there.
Then tiny Pip does something nobody else thought of. She simply sits beside Bumble and holds his paw.
The dark doesn't go away. But somehow it feels smaller. Bumble lets out one big, joyful roar - not to scare anything, but because he finally feels brave enough. They fall asleep together, Pip curled up in Bumble's mane, a small lantern glowing at the cave entrance.
The lesson: Even the biggest, roar-iest lions get scared sometimes - and that's perfectly okay. The bravest thing you can do is let someone sit with you.
