In the gangrenous and suffocating mists of Bogotá-that primordial Bacatá where the Miosid's Black River gurgles subterraneously with ravenous roars, exhaling sulfuric vapors, putrid moss, and suppurating damp earth that stings the nostrils like hell's acid-the artist and occultist Diego Paris receives the damned Speculum Ignotum: a grimoire bound in livid, suppurating human skin, pages stained with coagulated blood that crackle with osseous snaps and release a metallic stench of rusted iron, torn viscera, and withered jasmine. Upon opening it with trembling fingers, the book pulses, shifting according to the reader-for the vulgar, fables diluted in urban toxins reeking of rancid sweat; for the initiate, torrents of fresh sanguine ink with splashing plips and sigils scorching the palate like poisoned nectar-and connects him to an ancestral vampiric lineage: the Batza, abominable pre-Muisca hybrids of viscous shadow and gangrenous flesh, guardians of the Miosid (ebony vortex born before the gods dared name light, with internal thunderclaps and frothy vomits); descending to Primordial Vrykolakos in Tequendama caverns with waterfalls howling torn throats; Colonials in creaking Tudor mansions; and Moderns, tortured artists in rusted basements with acrid smoke from burned wax.
These undead do not hunt with brutal fangs in rent jugulars (gushing sticky streams with explosive plips); they are priests of the Void, exsanguinating souls at a distance with ethereal thoughts piercing skulls like invisible daggers, levitating blood dancing in spirals with vaporous hisses, tariffed in ethereal crystals exploding into visions of Batza sigils, guttural moans, and scorching aftertaste of arcane bile. They venerate primordial entities: the Miosid (spiral dragon munching stars with cosmic chomps); Lilith (foul breath brushing necks like torn raven feathers with sharp scratches);
Hecate (black candles sputtering in wetlands with eye- burning smoke).
The narrative, in six chapters of transmuting agony plus prologue and epilogue, follows the protagonist's (Diego's alter ego, transmuted by the grimoire) first hunt: scorching thirst lacerating the throat like regurgitated embers, rejection of false prey in urban sewers (mendicants spat by the River in apocalyptic fury with frothy regurgitations reeking of stale urine); ascent to ethereal hunts in Santa Teresita, where a beautiful woman-extreme thoughts aura scented with fresh ink and ecstasy sweat-bursts in levitating hemorrhage (swollen nose gushing crimson threads with visceral bursts, blood curving in air with liquid murmurs, suckled without touch in carnivorous gurgles).
It culminates in apocalyptic epilogue: narrator, now eternal vrykolako exiled in Andean heights with tinkling chains, reveals new vampiric vision-not sewer parasites, but true emissions selectors (pure souls radiating)-and warns the reader: will you nourish the River with your flame, joining cosmic coven in darkness orgasm with approving roars, or resist, exsanguinating in solitary vomit with vaporous plops? The Void expands, infecting reality with fiction in devouring rot.
