- Taste on purpose. A five-step method that turns a vague I like this into a clear explanation, with notes that still make sense a month later.
- Pair by structure. Match weight, acid, fat, and spice instead of memorizing lists, so the bottle stops fighting the plate.
- Order without gambling. A short routine for a restaurant list, fast enough to use with a waiter standing at your elbow.
No snobbery, no scores, no tasting-exam trivia. Dimitri Posadskiy is a software developer who spent years chasing bottles across wine regions, walking vineyards, and asking producers the questions this book answers. Every method here he built for himself first, tested in ordinary shops and at ordinary dinners, and wrote down only once it kept working.
What it asks of you: roughly 8-12 hours of reading. No cellar, no crystal glasses, no prior knowledge - and at most one everyday bottle every week or two if you want to taste along.
By the last chapter, a shelf of unfamiliar labels is simply a set of choices you know how to make. It also makes a good gift for anyone who likes wine and hates being talked down to.
