This study analyzes the United States Army future force concept, Future Combat System (FCS), the advanced mobility capabilities concept (AMC-X), and implications for future mobility operations. The Army envisions the FCS as a system of systems. The Army plans to capitalize on the latest technologies to realize a lighter, leaner force. This force will achieve greater effectiveness across the full range of military operations while transitioning rapidly from one phase of operations to another. Rapid transitions greatly benefit from the ability to maneuver quickly and effectively. Maneuver on the scale envisioned by the Army seeks to capitalize on technology to defeat the adversary through disruption, dislocation, and destruction. To achieve effectiveness through maneuver, the Army has accepted risk and chosen to strive for joint interdependence in key areas, especially joint force projection.
