What is time, genuinely? Not a sequence of instants. Not a container in which events take place. Not a background against which things happen and then cease to happen. Time, on the account developed in this book, is the constitutive power through which reality organises itself, sustains its forms, and presses toward equilibrium. This is not a metaphor. It is a foundational claim - precise, systematic, and testable against what science already knows.
The Architecture of Time is Volume 0 of the Temporal Theory of Truth series: its canonical reference and the conceptual foundation on which every subsequent volume is built. It does not summarise the four volumes that follow. It provides the language in which they are written. Every concept invoked across the series - Dynamochronos, Chronotopos, Chronosymmetria, Kairos, the four modes of time - is defined here in its most complete and precise form. Read before the series, it makes the full architecture of the programme visible from the beginning. Read alongside it, it serves as the reference that anchors every argument.
The book establishes three structural forces at the heart of the framework. Dynamochronos is the constitutive temporal power - the immanent drive through which movement, matter, life, and society are organised. Chronotopos is the organised temporal field in which that organisation takes form and sustains itself. Chronosymmetria is the dynamic tensioned equilibrium that any organisation must maintain if it is to endure - the form that truth itself takes within the framework.
It then sets out the four modes of time through which organised reality moves: Foundational Time, the deep structural layer that accumulates across geological and historical scales; Rhythmic Time, the recurrent beat by which an organisation maintains itself; Threshold Time, the decisive moment at which one order gives way to another; and Directive Time, the forward-reaching orientation that characterises consciousness, ethical choice, and political life.
At the centre of the book is the three-layer method that governs every volume in the series: scientific consensus first, boundary analysis second, ontological interpretation third - in a fixed and irreversible order, with the point at which interpretation begins always made visible. This method is not a formula. It is the discipline that makes the theory honest. It separates what science has established from what the framework proposes, and it never allows interpretation to borrow authority the science has not granted.
Two worked examples apply the full method before the reader encounters it in the volumes: the origin of life, and the logic of evolution. In both cases the science is set out within its own limits, the boundary is declared, and the framework's ontological reading is offered only afterward - adding no mechanism to the science, predicting nothing the science does not, and yet saying something the science does not say: what the transition is, understood as an event in the organisation of time.
This volume is also an account of what a philosophical research programme is and how it should be held accountable. It states what the framework claims, what it does not claim, and what could count against it. It locates the theory in relation to Heraclitus, Spinoza, Bergson, Whitehead, Prigogine, and the tradition of process ontology, while marking precisely where it departs from each. It is, in short, the place where the Temporal Theory of Truth shows all its cards.
