Electrophysical agents continue to play an important role in contemporary physiotherapy and rehabilitation; however, their clinical application is frequently challenged by inconsistent dosing, outdated treatment paradigms, and limited integration within modern evidence-informed rehabilitation models. This book provides a comprehensive and clinically grounded framework for the rational use of electrophysical agents in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports medicine.
Covering major modalities including therapeutic ultrasound, cryotherapy, thermotherapy, diathermy, low-level laser therapy, high-intensity laser therapy (HILT), extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), photobiomodulation, magnetic field therapy, and polarised polychromatic non-coherent light (Bioptron Light), the book integrates biophysical principles, mechanisms of action, dosimetry, and current clinical evidence within a modern rehabilitation perspective.
A distinctive feature of this book is its emphasis on clinical reasoning, individualized treatment planning, and the integration of electrophysical agents within active rehabilitation strategies. Rather than presenting these modalities as standalone interventions, the book positions them as adjunctive tools that may support pain modulation, tissue healing, edema management, and restoration of mobility and function when appropriately integrated into rehabilitation programs.
