THE WORLD BEFORE THE ICE
This is the final volume of the human story.
Not because the story ends here. Because this is where the four great expressions of the human blueprint (the Caucasian Winter, the African Spring, the Asian Summer, and now the American Autumn) finally converge into a single picture.
Before that convergence can begin, let us recap the foundation the first three books lay out.
If we were to choose one aspect of humans that reveals who we are, it is that we humans are naturally egalitarian in our social structures. We demand equality in all things related to sustenance and power.
In short, we humans value our freedom and self-determination more than anything.
We have good reasons for our stance, learned from hard experiences. As a result, we hate and naturally fear giving anyone the power to control our lives. All decisions about those things which affect everyone, must be made by everyone.
This human core value has resurfaced over hundreds of thousands of years of global history. It is this blueprint that separated us from the animal kingdom, allowing us to live with one another with a semblance of the productive peace that is a basic requirement for us all.
And more importantly combining our minds, our instincts, our energy, and our hearts gave us tremendous advantages in navigating our perilous journey, through a world turbulent enough, without having to deal with the ego driven blind who exploit their own kind.
Over 98% of our human timeline, this chosen way of life was carefully monitored, and strenuously fought for.
That said, we humans are not fixed at birth. What happens to us shapes what we carry forward, a reality proven in Volume One.
The people who eventually populated the Americas endured a version of the same ordeal as the people in The Caucasian Winter: generations of hard, cold isolation during the last ice age, closely resembling what happened to the people who would become the global raiders of our world.
Yes, the Native Americans too, would carry within them both the original egalitarian soul, and a hierarchical ice-age fear, born this time not from scarcity, like on a Caucasus mountain cliff, but from an extreme, life-or-death environment that required, for the clan to survive, not one specialist, but two.
These experts, by the nature of their vital skills, were both endowed with power.
That dual power dueled and danced for control, which in essence reflects our human struggle between those who take life, and those who protect it.
One other vital aspect stood in contrast between the ice-age survivors in Europe or Asia, and those of Beringia. When the Steppe raiders finally broke free of their own confinement, they found other peoples' lands to move into.
Yet, when the ice walls of Beringia melted, freeing the first Americans, they found two entire continents, virtually for themselves.
Here is that story: how a people shaped by their own experience of the ice age's demands, built, broke, and rebuilt their codes among themselves, for fifteen thousand years.
Before their distant counterparts, carrying the opposite legacy of that same shared ice-age trauma, arrived by ship and took from them both, what each was fighting for or against - life-giving land, and an egalitarian way of life, or the resources of an area, its people included, to be exploited.
