Who am I becoming-and what is influencing my choices?
Seventh grade is a powerful stage of development. Students are becoming more aware of identity, friendships, belonging, social pressure, emotions, technology, reputation, and the choices that shape who they are becoming.
RISE: Seventh Grade Resilience Curriculum - Identity & Influence gives students a structured, engaging way to strengthen resilience while learning how to think more clearly, communicate more effectively, manage pressure, build healthier relationships, and make intentional decisions.
Built around the RISE philosophy of Human Performance. Built Through Resilience., this comprehensive curriculum moves beyond simply talking about social-emotional skills. Students analyze realistic situations, examine evidence, challenge assumptions, practice strategies, make decisions, and defend their thinking.
Across 36 week-long resilience practices and 180 daily learning experiences, students explore six developmental areas: identity, influence, emotions, relationships and boundaries, decision-making under pressure, and personal direction.
Students learn to:
- Build self-awareness from evidence rather than labels
- Recognize peer, cultural, emotional, digital, and social influences
- Regulate emotions without losing direction
- Strengthen communication, trust, boundaries, conflict resolution, and repair
- Evaluate choices, consequences, values, and competing priorities
- Develop resilience after mistakes, setbacks, criticism, and disappointment
- Make thoughtful decisions under pressure
- Build leadership, responsibility, reputation, and personal agency
- Use their influence in positive and purposeful ways
The curriculum integrates the CASEL 5 competencies-Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making-while also embedding Grade 7 language arts skills including evidence, argument, source evaluation, discussion, reflection, revision, and presentation.
Each week follows the RISE five-day performance cycle:
Discover → Analyze → Experiment → Apply → Defend & Transfer
Students do more than complete worksheets. They participate in Student Labs, realistic scenarios, reflection activities, discussion, decision-making exercises, and performance tasks designed to help skills transfer into school, relationships, technology, future goals, and everyday life.
Designed for classrooms, advisory programs, SEL instruction, after-school programs, counseling support, homeschool environments, and youth-serving organizations, RISE gives educators a practical framework while giving students something even more important:
the ability to understand what is shaping them-and the confidence to decide who they want to become.
