Alice Barboza, a sixth-grade social studies teacher and survivor of childhood abuse and a college rape by a cop named Chip, has built her adult life around control, rules, and safety. When she meets Keith, a kind, secretly wealthy graphic designer, he patiently helps her reclaim her body, trust, and sense of joy. Through their tender, sometimes halting journey toward intimacy, Alice begins to heal: she finds a chosen family in Keith's parents and her best friend Lynn, discovers experiential teaching as her passion, and slowly accepts that she is worthy of a love that does not hurt. Their relationship culminates in a deeply personal proposal, a dream wedding at a cliffside nature preserve, and a honeymoon in Puerto Rico, where a chance encounter with a trafficker named Sebastian Sanchez leaves Keith shot and both of them shaken - and furious that evil men continue to face no real consequences.
That fury becomes a turning point. Alice, whose moral compass has always been shaped by Hammurabi-style fitting consequences, channels her trauma and rage into a vigilante alter ego: Justice Créateur. With Keith as her partner, Marshall Law, they quietly form the Zero Tolerance Gang with Lynn and Lynn's new partner, Liam. At first, their targets are personal and local: a cheating lawyer who abuses Lynn (Jeff), cruel customers and bullies, a thieving cashier exploiting their beloved grocer Bird, and a manipulative principal having an affair with a married mom, Misty, whose husband Eric is also abusive. What begins as creative, non-lethal punishments and symbolic warnings escalates: Alice drugs and brands Jeff with CHEATER, she and Keith engineer a terrifying glass-and-glue consequence for the thief Diana, and, pushed by Lynn's unresolved rage and their own thirst for justice, they eventually orchestrate Eric's death as a staged drunk-driving accident. The line between justice and vengeance blurs, straining their ethics and their friendships even as they convince themselves they're protecting victims no one else will save.
When Keith agrees to go undercover with Puerto Rican officers Verde and Azul to infiltrate the Aguas Buenas trafficking network and bring down Sanchez and his bosses, the stakes become life-or-death. While Alice tutors and works in Puerto Rico to stay close, Sanchez kidnaps her and delivers her to the gang's leaders, Adrian and his ruthless wife Maxine, unknowingly putting her face-to-face with Keith, now deep undercover as Law. In a chaotic rescue and takedown inside the compound, Sanchez is killed, Maxine and Adrian are captured, but Keith is mortally wounded and dies off-page in a subsequent attack. One year later, Alice, shattered and nomadic, has fully become Justice 2.0: no more warnings, no more half-measures, only lethal or permanently disabling consequences for traffickers and the corrupt ecosystem around them. With her dog KJ at her side and Verde and Azul feeding her intel from the shadows, she hunts surviving members of the network and their enablers - still a teacher at heart, but now one who delivers lessons in blood, dressing for revenge in a world that failed to protect her and the people she loved.
