The Yellow Door represents hope and light. It is a collection of my special moments - those quiet openings of grace where, even in darkness, something or someone lets the light in.
Towards the end of 2025, I was ready to give up - ready to surrender to the darkness that had taken over my life. In my world, giving up does not simply mean failing to wake up on time, eating well, or submitting yet another job application with cautious hope. I had done all of that before. This time, I was ready to give up on life itself. I had written my final letter and was preparing to spend one last moment with my family in Nigeria before saying goodbye. I had it all planned. But that trip to Nigeria completely changed me.
One of the most painful parts of depression is feeling misunderstood and isolated. As I share my story, I hope you feel seen and understood, and find strength in our shared experience.
