There is a stretch of grief that almost nothing is written about. It is not the first weeks - everybody recognises those. It is the part that comes after: when the arrangements are finished, the visitors have gone back to their own lives, and the world has quietly filed your loss as resolved.

THE YEAR EVERYONE STOPPED ASKING is fifty short reflections for that stretch. Two pages each. No stages, no timelines, and nothing that tells you how you ought to feel by now.
It is a book for the questions you have stopped saying out loud:
Why is this harder now than it was at the beginning?
Why did I stop crying, and why does that frighten me?
Why can I not remember the sound of their voice?
Why did I have one good afternoon and feel like a traitor?
Why does everyone think I am fine?

It does not tell you how long any of this should take. It does not sort you into a stage. It contains no statistics and no case histories. It makes no assumption about who you lost or what you believe about what comes after.
And it is honest about its own limits: the author is not a therapist, a counsellor, a doctor or a grief professional, and says so on the first page rather than leaving it to be discovered. There is a section at the back on how to recognise when carrying this alone has stopped working, and where to take it then.
Nothing here will fix anything. A book cannot. What it can do is tell you which parts of this are ordinary - so you spend less of what you have left wondering whether something has gone wrong with you.
Nothing has gone wrong with you. The asking just stopped.
