Philosophy demands attention. This book invites you to read calmly and offers a clear, structured path -without losing rigor or falling into oversimplification.
Xenophanes was an itinerant poet, close to those singers and reciters who travelled from city to city bringing stories and wisdom from distant worlds. His figure belongs to the road, to recitation, and to argument in verse. That condition explains much of his legacy: wherever a city inherited images, stories, and certainties about the gods, Xenophanes forced the question of how much in those images was true piety, and how much was human custom mistaken for truth.

That condition explains much of his legacy: wherever a city inherited images, stories, and certainties about the gods, Xenophanes forced the question of how much in those images was true piety, and how much was human custom mistaken for truth.
In that sense, he was a corrective and wandering voice, able to widen the image of the divine beyond the human and to question the confidence with which people so often mistake their customs for truth.
