Meet Woolbur!
Maa and Paa would have preferred a conformist. What they got instead was Woolbur.
I don't want to shear my wool, said Woolbur. Being wooly feels nice.
But it's springtime! said Paa.
I know, said Woolbur. Isn't it great?
Your wool is so long, said Maa.
I know, said Woolbur. Isn't it great?
In this charming tale of independence, Maa and Paa try to get Woolbur to follow the flock, But what they don't realize is that Woolbur's boldness and individuality will soon inspire a whole flock to follow him. From wild hairstyles to spinning wheel rides, Woolbur becomes a leader in his own special way. And in a world where fitting in is often the norm, Woolbur's sense of self is a refreshing change.
(Goodreads) Don't worry! says Grandpaa when Maa and Paa fret that Woolbur is different. But when they tell their son to follow the flock, the opposite happens-the flock follows him! Soon everyone is copying his wild hairstyles and taking turns on the spinning wheel. Leave it to Woolbur to find a new way to step ahead of the herd.
Spunky, funky, and refreshingly distinct, Woolbur will strike a chord with anyone who's ever felt different. And that's all of us!
(Fuse 8) This is a pretty delightful little tale. Fans of sheep, wool, and unconventional forms of education (Montessori schools should be buying this book in bulk) will all be fans of Helakoski and Harper's tale. Accurate where it needs to be accurate and amusing where it needs to be amusing, this one stands apart from the pack.
(Kirkus) Harper's lumpy, expressive ovines, especially the wild-wooled Woolbur, bring Helakoski's delightful tale of independence to life.
