Written for upper elementary, but enjoyable by all, With a Song In His Heart tells the story of a service dog and his music teacher handler. The book is part fiction - Eddie's entire puppyhood is made up, except for being born on a farm and then being donated to the dog school, and part fact - once he goes into service with Sandy, all of the stories are true. Part of the fun is that the story is told through Eddie's voice throughout the book.

Eddie, a retriever mix puppy, is born on a farm outside of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Here he learns life lessons and values, such as how to be kind and caring, and the importance of friends and family. It's on the farm that, with the help and guidance of a special friend, as well as his parents, Eddie learns how to deal with bullies. He also learns many of the skills that would set him on the path to being a service dog. Join Eddie on his adventures on the farm, and then keep reading for the real life adventures of Service Dog Eddie, as he fulfills his role as a mobility assistance dog for Sandy, a small town music teacher with Multiple Sclerosis. The story of Eddie's fictional puppyhood is told with imagination and humor, and the totally true stories of his life with Sandy are downright hilarious!
