High school in the 1970s had many definitions for those who were lucky enough to attend this Catholic all-girl school. Uniforms, nuns as teachers, daily Mass, and getting into trouble became the prevailing theme, for not only myself but others who experienced these rebellious years. And of course, boy crushes from freshman to senior year. Every 12 months brought about a new energy and a new adventure, ones that defined how this era was supposed to be no laughing matter, but it was. For me, anyway.

I wasn't a stellar student at all. If anything, I had my foibles and rebellion that landed me in one interesting situation after another. What I do know is that high school at Ursuline Academy in Dallas was about the most significant moment of my life. It defined me as a woman and brought about the challenges that led me to college in Austin and to the many moves around the United States in the subsequent decades thereafter. I treasure the 1970s high school years, and wouldn't trade any of it for a moment.

But I was a rebel, that's a given.
