The original play What Do They Become? written by Jared Kelner (author of the book, LINE?) and directed by Gerry Appel (artistic director of Playhouse Acting Academy) first appeared in the 2015 Venus-Adonis Theater Festival at The Robert Moss Theater at 440 Lafayette Street in NYC on January 6th at 9pm, 7th at 6:15pm and 10th at 7pm. The talented cast consists of Jared Kelner, Marina Vrahnos, Sarah MacMillan and Chris Robertson. In this ninety-minute powerful play, the complex characters explore themes of love, marital problems, neglect, abuse, betrayal, abandonment and broken systems. Marriage is difficult, especially when infidelity and alcohol are present. Often times, couples, in what appear to be a bad marriage, love each other and yearn for their origin, but obstacles they've placed between them prevent the re-connection. Foolishly, some couples believe a child will help resolve their marital problems; give them something to work on together, but if they don't address the issues between them, a child will likely drive them farther apart. But what if that child is temporary, from the Foster Care system? Could caring for someone else's child for a moment in time help the couple rediscover their love? Is it fair to the innocent child to be used as therapy aid? What happens to these Foster Care Children when they are passed from home to home? What do they become?
