The Witch is a play written by Thomas Middleton in the early 17th century. It tells the story of a wealthy merchant, Frank, who is in love with a young woman named Winnifride. However, Winnifride's mother, Joan, is a cunning and manipulative woman who practices witchcraft and is determined to prevent Frank from marrying her daughter. Joan enlists the help of a group of witches to carry out her plans, which include causing Frank to fall ill and attempting to seduce him herself. As the play unfolds, Frank becomes increasingly suspicious of Joan's intentions and seeks the help of a wise woman to counteract her spells. Meanwhile, Winnifride is torn between her love for Frank and her loyalty to her mother. The play builds to a dramatic climax as Frank confronts Joan and the witches in a final showdown. The Witch is a dark and suspenseful play that explores themes of power, manipulation, and the supernatural. It is considered one of Middleton's most successful works and has been adapted for the stage and screen numerous times over the centuries.HECATE Titty and Tiffin, Suckin and Pidgen, Liard and Robin, White spirits, black spirits, grey spirits, red spirits, Devil-toad, devil-ram, devil-cat, and devil-dam!This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
