Aphorisms and poems meant to express the Author's wisdom. As Aquinas had said, The end of my labors has come. All that I have written appears to be as so much straw after the things that have been revealed to me. It wasn't because he lost faith. If in a discussion with a prominent atheist, I'm sure they would smash all Christian arguments to pieces---and they would. Let Christians lovingly sigh. For as Aquinas actually realized, there are limits to man's wisdom. Faced with the certainty of miracles, one must believe, though. So, at the end of Aquinas' life God spoke to him in a vision. You have written well of me. And God gave him the choice of what would happen to his work. Aquinas replied that he didn't care, all he wanted was to be with God.
