This book provides Christian self help for women who are feeling the weariness of a sometimes-strained marriage.
You can claim victory in your walk with the Lord and in your Christian marriage, despite conflicts and circumstances you find distressing or hurtful.
Although each of the 52 verses begins with something your husband does or doesn't do, this book is not about him. It is about you and how you can use each situation to grow in Christ. Some circumstances will apply to you, others won't. Those that don't, offer you an opportunity to praise God that your husband doesn't behave in that manner, and the opportunity to lift up in prayer your sisters in Christ who do live in those conditions. However, the more of these 52 instances you encounter, the more occasion you have for spiritual growth.
The scriptures given for each situation are not exclusive but rather interchangeable with other circumstances. So if one week's issue doesn't apply to you, you can claim the verse to help you flourish, regardless.
As well, this book is not about how to have a perfect marriage but rather how to thrive within an imperfect marriage. As you move through the messages, ask yourself, Am I guilty of this? Ask God to shine a light upon your behaviors and thoughts. Herein is more room for growth.
Communication with your spouse is vital.
As a marriage and individual counselor for many years-having the opportunity to work with those from various ages, backgrounds, cultures, and faiths-the author encountered the issues you will read in the following 52 weeks of verses. These matters are best addressed between partners who are devoted to Christ. Even then, although both are saved, not everyone responds to making changes in a godly way. It is up to you to respond in the way God leads as you entrust your husband to Him, for only the Lord can change any of us.
The pages speak of some behaviors which are sin. However, the majority of these husband behaviors fall short of honoring 1 Peter 3:7, which calls husbands to be considerate, understanding, respectful, and to treat wives with gentleness and tact. That said, the intent of these verses is not to criticize or accuse your spouse but to provide a way for you to not only persevere but to prosper in the circumstances and grow in Christ.
