Your dad calls. You let it ring.
There will always be another call... right?
Hannah Porter loves her father.
She also ignores a lot of his calls.
Because Rick Porter calls about everything.
Tire pressure. Bad weather. Whether she has eaten. Whether she remembered something she absolutely remembered.
At thirty, Hannah has a career, an apartment, and a life of her own. She knows her dad loves her.
She just wishes he could occasionally love her a little more quietly.
Then Rick goes to a funeral.
And something changes.
A few days later, he asks Hannah to get into his truck and spend one week on the road with him.
No real explanation.
Just five names.
Five people he says he needs to see.
Hannah agrees mostly because saying no would lead to approximately seventeen more phone calls.
But the farther they drive, the stranger the list becomes.
Some people are happy to see Rick.
Some clearly aren't.
Some know stories about him Hannah has never heard.
And whenever she asks the obvious question-
Why are we really doing this?
-her father finds a reason not to answer.
For the first time in her life, Hannah stops wondering why her dad calls so much.
She starts wondering what he has never told her.
And why he suddenly seems so determined to finish this trip now.
Funny, warm, and deeply emotional, WHEN DAD CALLS is a father-daughter story about the calls we ignore, the questions we forget to ask, and the dangerous little belief that there will always be more time.
