The Watchman of the Coast is a Victorian ghost story in the tradition of Dickens's The Signalman and the Christmas hauntings of M. R. James: quiet, patient, and genuinely cruel. A novelette of some 11,000 words - best read late, in winter, with the door shut.
This is a revised and expanded edition. An earlier and substantially different version of this story appeared in 2025 as The Bell-Ringer's Manuscript.
