Waiting legs go jiggly. Waiting tummies go fluttery. Waiting ears go sharp.
Little Bean is waiting for something. Something is taking its time. The door does nothing, no matter how hard Little Bean watches it - and hurrying the waiting doesn't help either, because waiting doesn't hurry. It just waits. The Waiting is a gentle story for every child stuck in that stretchy, restless space before something happens: before the visitor arrives, before the appointment, before the thing they cannot stop thinking about finally comes.
Then Little Bean stops fighting the waiting. The jiggly legs get to jiggle, on purpose this time. The fluttery tummy gets slow breaths - cool air in, warm air out. The sharp ears get a job: counting sounds. And somewhere in all that softness, the waiting gets shorter - not because it hurried, but because Little Bean stopped counting it.
Why parents and caregivers love The Waiting:
Tools for the exact feeling, not just the general one. Jiggly legs, fluttery tummies, and sharp ears each get their own specific, body-based response - not one generic calm down instruction.
Honest about what waiting actually is. You cannot make waiting shorter. But you can make it softer. This book never pretends the wait will speed up. It changes who is in charge of it instead.
A ritual a child can reuse anywhere. Jiggle on purpose. Slow breaths. Count the sounds. Find five soft things. None of it needs a jar, a prop, or a parent standing by - just a body that already has everything it needs.
Built for real waiting rooms. Appointments, car journeys, the last five minutes before a birthday party - this is the book for the moments grown-ups dread most.
