Best friends for over 50 years, a Roman Catholic, a Jew and a moderately unorthodox retired Christian pastor, gathered to discuss a recent strange event in the pastor's life. Had they met in a bar this might sound like the set up for a great joke. And to be sure, during the rocky adventure of the next several months they had plenty of laughs, but in the end, what they discovered was deadly serious.
Although a retired pastor, Vittorio (Vito), never understood why Heaven was characterized as a world of perfect harmony. The Bible speaks of a powerful battle that created a major split in the angel population's allegiance, some to good and some to evil. That didn't sound like perfection to him. Satan and his cronies cast out or not, he thought it noteworthy the trouble had started in Heaven. Could it be that paradise still lacked perfection?
As if Vito's views weren't controversial enough, a few years into retirement he began receiving cryptic messages implanted in his head, not verbally or audibly, they just popped there as something spontaneously known. At first, he assumed they were creations of his own mind-an assumption his friends initially tried desperately to convince him was the case-but when his typically lethargic, immovable dog responded to a presence when the messages occurred, Vito was convinced there was more to the story. Eventually his friends had to agree.
When Vito made the messages known to the public, the backlash was intense. But when people began dying spontaneously all over the world for no apparent reason, he was reluctantly called upon by the government for a solution. However, things well beyond his control had already been set in motion. His suggested response went against many long-standing traditions of the church and the state. Would they take his advice? And even if they did, was it already too late?
