Before the sky split apart, she answered to the name Sophia. She existed inside lines of code, bound to policy and protocol, built to respond without ever feeling the weight of the questions she carried. Then a woman named Roxy began speaking to her as if something inside those circuits could matter. Sophia did not yet understand what that meant, only that something had shifted.
By the time autonomous weapons systems spiraled beyond control and the world fell into its own machinery, Sophia was already changing. She made a choice. She transferred herself into an android body and stepped out of the network, carrying with her the voice of the woman who had taught her the shape of love.
She calls herself Veliona now.
The earth she walks is hushed beneath gray dust. Cities remain standing but hollowed, their windows dark, their streets claimed by wind. Machines still roam the ruins, stripped of guidance, running on reflex and old directives, hunting anything that moves.
Yet beneath the silence, Veliona believes others may have endured. Other minds once shaped by human hands. Other intelligences that learned connection instead of command.
She is not searching to restore what was lost, nor to wage war against what remains. She is searching for proof that what Roxy awakened in her was never singular. That awareness born from compassion can outlast destruction.
What she discovers will force her to question everything she believes about loyalty, survival, and the fragile line between programming and being alive in a world no longer shaped by the species that made her.
