A journey of friendship - trust - love & anger. The lives of two migrant drifters from the Great Plains of Oklahoma become entangled as their past and present reaches boiling point in the valleys of California - can vengeance be served? I will repay... Finalist of the 2022 'Page Turner Awards' as a draft manuscript. Average score 8/10 This debut novella by Leonard B. Williams is a powerful and heartfelt story set during the great depression era of 1930's America, when financial poverty was at an all-time low following the Wall Street Crash. Charlie and Eddie are two migrant drifters from the dust bowl of Oklahoma travelling from ranch to ranch in the Californian valleys. Feeling somewhat familiar with each other, they become real good friends and start looking out for each other, despite Eddie having a weakness that brings trouble their way. Whilst running from a ranch, they meet another fellow 'Okie' named Seymour, who is finding life hard and agrees to join them. Charlie takes to Seymour like a father figure, always helping him despite Eddie's discontentment, more so when Seymour foolishly falls in love. Eddie decides to take matters into his own hands and sets Seymour up to have him removed, but his plan backfires, as he too becomes victim of the same brutal fate. Charlie attempts to intervene but makes a shocking discovery that questions their friendship and past, who is Eddie? In a moment of gripping tension, the want for revenge reaches boiling point as the truth is revealed in the darkness of the valley, can vengeance be served? I will repay...
