A Valiant Bishop Against A Ruthless King: The Life Of St. John Fisher by Paul McCann is a biographical account of the life and times of St. John Fisher, an English bishop who stood up against the tyranny of King Henry VIII during the Reformation. The book explores Fisher's early life, his rise to prominence in the church, and his eventual conflict with the king over the issue of the pope's authority. Fisher's staunch defense of the Catholic Church and his refusal to recognize Henry VIII's supremacy led to his imprisonment and eventual execution. The book also delves into the political and religious climate of 16th century England, providing a vivid picture of the tumultuous times in which Fisher lived. Through meticulous research and engaging storytelling, McCann paints a vivid portrait of a brave and principled man who stood up for what he believed in, even in the face of great adversity. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the English Reformation or the lives of the saints. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
